The Story of Stuff
Aug 27, 2010 Here is the full version of this very important movie (22 minutes). It is worth taking the time to watch this simple and wonderful explanation about all the 'stuff' we use.
Our consumer-driven lifestyle makes us notorious worldwide, for our wasteful habits, which have very far reaching destructive implications for the future of our planet.
Just before Thanksgiving in 2008, a fire burned everything I and my family had. Nearly 50 years of accumulating stuff disappeared up in smoke. I generally do not miss any of it, although some of the art and jewelry were very meaningful and valuable, passed down to me from my mother and grandmother.
Hopefully my kids have learned that the important things in life are not 'stuff' that can easily go up in smoke...and therefore, they will not accumulate a lot of stuff, which turns into junk that fills our landfills.
If each person thought twice before buying more stuff, perhaps we could reverse this dangerous, unhealthy path we have been forging.
